Special Event Permit Application


Please read carefully:

A Special Event permit is required for anyone wanting to hold a parade/procession, festival, bike or walk-a-thon, or any similar event that requires a lane or road closure or may interfere with the normal flow of traffic on a Regional road.

Any organization/person planning a special event on a Regional road must first obtain proper approval from the Municipality(ies) involved and from Durham Regional Police.

Before a permit can be issued, approval of the event must be obtained from the local Municipality(ies) involved and the Durham Regional Police Service. 1) Police Involvement Required - Police Escort, Police Control - Paid Duty Police or Auxiliary as per the recommendation of the Durham Police Service. 2) If road closure is required, approval of local Emergency Services agencies and Durham Region Transit is required.
The undersigned Organization or Agency shall assume all liability for any and all incidents that may arise as the result of the event described herein, and shall indemnify and save harmless the Region from any actions, claims, suits, or demands made against the Region by any person or persons, whether directly or indirectly, arising from the issuance of this permit. The undersigned Organization or Agency shall provide the Region with a Certificate of Insurance on the Region's form (available for download below) prior to commencing; and, shall maintain liability insurance in the amount of at least $5 million for the duration of the application, and shall name the Regional Municipality of Durham as additional insured on the Certificate of Insurance. All certificates must be completed by the insurance broker or insurer on the Region’s form.
