The Region of Durham has initiated a Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment to plan for additional sanitary sewage capacity to provide service for the population growth in Sunderland and Cannington within the Township of Brock.
This study is being undertaken to identify an environmentally sound and sustainable solution that provides:
-
Collection and pumping requirements to provide adequate municipal sanitary servicing to both Sunderland and Cannington communities to 2031 and beyond;
-
Sanitary treatment requirements to provide adequate municipal servicing to both Sunderland and Cannington to 2031 and beyond; and
-
Strategic oversizing and long-range planning of the facilities to accommodate future sanitary servicing demands to 2031 and beyond.
What will the study involve?
This study will be completed in accordance with the planning and design process for ‘Schedule C’ projects as outlined in the Municipal Class EA document (as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015) which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. As part of this study, a series of alternative solutions will be developed and evaluated against a broad range of criteria, potential effects to the environment will be assessed, a recommended solution will be determined, and reasonable measures to reduce or avoid adverse effects to the environment will be identified. In addition, an Environmental Study Report will be filed for public review and will document the planning and decision-making process.
How can I provide comments?
Consultation is a key component of the Municipal Class EA process, and your participation throughout the study is encouraged. There will be two Public Information Centers (PICs) held virtually for each community to present and obtain your feedback on study information, including the problems and opportunities, the evaluation of alternative solutions, and the recommended solution. Notification of the PICs will be published in local newspapers, posted to the Region’s website, and issued to those who have expressed an interest in this study.
Project Update Virtual Public Information Centre February 8, 2023:
The Region and consultant CIMA+ have established and evaluated some of the alternative options available for the expansion of sanitary sewage infrastructure within Sunderland and Cannington in the Township of Brock. A Notice of Public Information Centre (PIC) is now posted as the Project Team would like to share the work that we have collected and developed to date. The PIC is being held virtually on the public works projects portal and hard copies of the presentation are also available at the Sunderland and Cannington libraries. The PIC is posted below, along with the Team's contact information for your review and comments. The Project Team values your input, and any feedback will be reviewed with our consultant, CIMA+. The preferred alternatives will be selected to support growth and to meet the sustainable objectives of our communities. Project updates will continue to be posted to this website as they become available.
